The Scolarship Fund Committee of the National Ballet School organized a Decorators' Showhouse and invited twenty design firms to furnish a variety of rooms. Karelia was invited to furnish a Bachelor's Apartment and Wilfred Spring, our Swiss friend, and I designed and physically set up the apartment. It was basically a one room apartment. We suspended a custom space frame from the ceiling, on which you could store various things as well as hang pots and pans.

I quote from the event catalogue:

“An exciting world of contemporary design is presented in the bachelor apartment featuring the best of Finnish design. Thev work and dining areas are based primarily on the fantastically versatile Palaset cube. Storage compartments are topped with butcher bock counters, and Bauhaus chairs surround the dining table. The cube form is repeated in an ingenious space frame which is suspended from the ceiling, composed entirely of wooden dowels. Decorative yet practical, this can be used for hanging everything from pots and plants to sausages and onions. the bed is covered with a collection of lively Marimekko pillows and a Marimekko print covers the roller blind at the window.
