This was my second involvement with the Constellation Hotel. Major additions were being added to the hotel, a new entrance lobby and reception, several restaurants and a very large convention hall. I was asked to do the interior design for all the areas. The lobby floor was a very large marble installation and presented some challenges. The pattern was at 45 degrees to the perimeter walls and would not land evenly agains them. The solution was to have a  dark border that varied in width to accommodate the pattern. It turned out beautifully.

For the central pyramid shape, I wanted a major focal point chandelier. I created a modern light fixture that cascades down from the centre . The fixture consists of clear acrylic rods with mini-bulbs embedded in them and an equal of plain clear acrylic rods in which the bulbs were reflected. We also designed the brass light fixtures throughout.

We designed a custom ceiling for the convention hall that provides several functions, lighting and acoustic control, visual interest and the ability to suspend various objects an displays. Additional acoustic control was achieved with perforated brick walls with sound absorbing material behind. The carpet was custom made in Quebec and was inspired by the pin wheel pattern of the ceiling pyramids. It was made on a Jacquard loom.
